Meals
The Continental buffet breakfast is served between 8.30 and 10.00 in the dining room of the main building.
The buffet offers a choice of milk, tea, coffee, fresh croissants, bread, assorted jams, honey, orange juice, cornflakes, muesli, yoghurt, fresh fruit, cheese and sliced ham.
All of the guests at Il Casello are given a list of excellent local restaurants that have been recommended by other guests.
The nearest vineyard for wine tastings and cellar visits is five minutes' walk away.
The Gardens
The traditional stone buildings that comprise “Il Casello” country house bed and breakfast are surrounded by beautiful terraced gardens where gardening tools from bygone days are displayed.
The salt-water pool (14 m x 7 m) is located at the opposite end of the gardens from the house.
Here guests can relax in the sunbathing area and enjoy the magnificent panoramic view over the neighbouring valley.
There is also a children’s play area and ping pong table for the guests.
Local activities
The reception staff are more than happy to help with museum or restaurant reservations, give local tourist information and serve drinks.
We are also happy to organise horse trekking, cellar visits and wine tastings at the neighbouring farms, just a few minutes walk away through the vineyards.
Cookery classes can be arranged for 2 or more people. These are held in a lovely Tuscan farmhouse just above Greve in the hamlet of Montefioralle.
Golf lovers will be pleased to know that the most prestigious golf club in Italy at Ugolini is only a twenty minute drive away along the Chiantigiana road.
The nearby San Michele natural park above Greve is a wonderful place to cool down during the long hot summer days and for our younger guests there is the Cavriglia Park zoo, or the tree-climbing park, both 40 minutes' drive away.
It is recommended that guests have their own transport for touring the Chianti region and further afield in Tuscany, but mountain-bike rentals can be arranged and the bustop for buses to and from the very centre of Florence is 100m away.
